    The dining experience at the White Horse was a little pretentious and overpriced for a gastropub although I'd have to agree about the little pots of homemade bread - they were a clever and tasty touch. The reason I've given it three stars is actually because I've had a couple of very pleasant Sunday afternoons (well, couple of hours!) sat in the bay windows in the bar area. The small plates of bar food were better value than the main restaurant and were great washed down with guinness!

    I hate to say it, but don't buy into the hype. Unfortunately it's just really average pub fair dressed up to look more than it is. Gastro Pub Food gone flat. The service isn't much better either. Being a local I've been there a handful of occasions now since it's opening and each time I have left unsatisfied and slightly out of pocket! On the plus side the homemade bread (individually baked in sunflower pots) is rather scrummy and I can't knock the surroundings and atmosphere.

    There is now better pub grub to be found in Harpenden. Mr Novelli please take note!!

    Under new ownership yet again we were hoping for good thingsnot to be.

    Went there 2 weeks ago on a busy Saturday evening. The service was OK but the food was very average, portion sizes were not great, the food was warm-ish and almost tasteless.

    We were given a customer comment form at the end of the meal but the space to write was so small (a bit like their portion sizes) we just put a note saying please contact us for more information on whey we were not happy. Over two weeks later and we have still heard nothing from them, not interested in why we were not happy I guess.
    This is a fantastic venue but nobody that ever takes over seems to make it work. It has had more owners and management in recent years than I care to remember.
    Ideal location in a wealthy neighbourhood, why can nobody get this place right.
